the one where I go to Colorado to photograph Luke + Camille's wedding

A few weeks back I made a road trip to Colorado to photograph a wedding for some very dear friends of mine. The Kitten Family and I go way back and their daughter, Camille was in love and planning a lovely wedding. When the pandemic hit plans changed and her wedding became a smaller, more intimate family affair. Sounds like my kind of party so LET’S GO! I hitched a ride with her mom and dad and off we went to Colorado! Masks, hand sanitizer and camera gear on board.

It was a great road trip! Lots of love and laughter and games. I love games! We played the “name that song game”. Have you ever played that? Someone in the car is DJ and they play a song from their playlist and everyone else names the tune and earns points for artist and song title. Super fun! we also got a flat tire which is not super fun but that only set us back about an hour or so and we still arrived in Colorado with the sun shining.

In the photographs I’m sharing here, you’ll see a cute puppy. His name is John and he made the trek from Lubbock to Denver to his new home. He belongs to the bride and groom and he was simply so sweet and soft. He even went on their honeymoon! I’m not lying! Of course, due to the pandemic, their romantic honeymoon they had planned was changed and instead? Mountain hideaway with a new puppy.

My weekend in Denver was wonderful. It truly was. We made some fun memories together, played that new card game Mike + Valerie got me addicted to, and even hiked a mountain for a proposal. The bride’s brother, Luke proposed to his girlfriend!!! It was awesome! Yes. COVID-19 precautions were everywhere but it didn’t stop the love the families brought to celebrate this couple. I’m forever thankful that they allowed me to be a part of their weekend. Think about it? You are restricted by guests numbers and I made the cut! It felt like I had made my high school basketball team as a freshman or something! It felt good. ❤️

speaking of Nuts, here he is with the new puppy, John.

Puppies chew. If they didn’t chew so much, John might have gone home with me. He was that soft and sweet.

Camille is gorgeous! All the Kitten girls are! We did hair and makeup at her place in Denver.

Hotels are great to get ready at, and I love everyone relaxing together, but something about being comfy at home just fits with this event. (and fits with COVID-19 restrictions.)

fun fact…the little people on the wedding cake? The bride’s great grandmother, Ada Mae, she I think either made them or had them or maybe even used them on her wedding cake. Whatever the case, they’ve been at many a Kitten Wedding. How cute is that?

The venue had options. They had several places they could choose to have the ceremony. The grounds outside were nestled in the mountains and they had several facilities that would fit their wedding party. Planners were checking things out and making decisions.

Every time I see a veil in the light, EVERY-TIME, I have to photograph it. Have to. They were made to catch the light and you know me? I love to chase it!

The bride’s room had a lot of laughter and scissor opportunity moments.

When Laura saw her sister in the gown, it hit. The emotions hit…HARD.

and Camille had a first look with her dad. You can view more of this in the slideshow at the top of the page. Such a great moment! When you watch moments like this, you realize why you love your job so much.

They each had their vows written and in their books so they could read them if needed. I don’t remember them off hand, but hello! They were good. People cried. People laughed. And there was a kiss involved.

I try and look for moments that are unique to each couple. I mean a wedding is a wedding is a wedding. So you try to move around and get all the shots you can so that you can make good pictures. I LOVE this one!

And then this happened. Everyone that was there go to pray over the couple. How special is that during your ceremony? I’m telling you, this small intimate event kind of wedding, it’s pretty darn cool.

The Bender Family were a complete pleasure to meet and spend the weekend with. I will tell you that they have the BIGGEST dog I’ve ever worked with at a wedding. He was the ring bearer and had hot breath and a HUGE head. He’s super sweet as well. Remember that slide show I mentioned? He’s featured there.

Throw rose petals on your aisle exit. PLEASE. I love this!!!

We then took a few minutes to make some couple’s photographs. It doesn’t have to take crazy amounts of time. Just grab each other and enjoy your first few moments as husband and wife. I’ll do the rest.

From this point on we will always do a sibling shot just to see if anyone can out jump Kate, the groom’s sister. Girl can jump!

Janet and her daughters. How gorgeous are these girls?!?! In our circle of friends, when Jefferey started dating Janet, we all were so curious and stared at her in wonderment…she’s dating NUTS? LOL

I can vouch for the cake. It was AWESOME!

Congratulations to the happy couple! On their new addition of John and on their start as a happy family. I’m so thankful to have photographed your wedding day.
