Rachel, Senior 2012
I've started thinking about the "why" of photos more and more. It started with Kalyn's birthday. She turned 18. And her very good friend Rebekah asked me for some old photos of the two of them together. I was forced to dig through my stash and in doing so, realized how important not only organization is, but how important taking photographs is. When you take the time to dig, you love looking at old photos! Come on! It brings up old memories and makes you yearn for easier times. Okay, so maybe not everything in the past is easy, but it sure feels that way when you look at them.
In many of the photos some of the scene is included around the event so that the viewer would know what exactly what going on in that moment. Composition comes into play so much in that not only should it be pleasing to our eye, but interesting and most of all, story worthy. You don't want the elements of the composition to distract. Meaning, consciously check the 4 sides before pressing that shutter, but you also don't want to crop something out that may MEAN something many years on down the road.
Now, Senior Portrait Photography is a bit different. It's not so much about the elements surrounding the subject as it is the SUBJECT. When they look back at these photos in the years to come, you want to give them a good selection of their body, face, hair, style, etc. so that they can KNOW or remember themselves. And you want to make them look dang good. HA!
The above photo is of Rachel. We've known her family for eons, it feels. Her and Kalyn have grown up together and she's such a beautiful young lady. Last night was her Senior Portraits and we chased the light all over. I love the shot above despite the messy hair.
She's beautiful!
