It's the beginning of the year. I'm in a funk. Funk may not be the word I'm looking for.

I'm rather melancholy.

Adjective:Sad, gloomy, or depressed.

Noun:A deep, pensive, and long-lastin

That's not right either.

I'm pouring through a favorite photo book of mine. The World's Top Photographers in between uploading images to galleries and most of the work featured in this book is film. And I'm not blogging this thought to start a debate between film/digital shooters, but having done both for hire, since I'm very old (ha), I don't really think about film until I view film images. They make me nostalgic for that time. Ahh...there's the word I'm looking for. I'm feeling very "nostalgic".

n.

1. A bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past.
2. The condition of being homesick; homesickness.
I'm longing for that clarity and tonal richness that comes from those images. I'm constantly looking for ways to improve things in my life. Keep things simple.

I strive to get better each and every wedding, each and every session. If I can't improve, then why even bother pressing that shutter? Right? Just shoot me and be done. I strive to give clients classic, timeless images that will speak to them generations from now. That's my goal each and every time I work a wedding.
I like this image.
It's SOOC (straight out of camera).

I placed Jarrott's bouquet on the floor of some rather boring carpet, but I was "chasing the light" as I always do and we had some good stuff coming in a window to the left of the camera. I stopped down or purposely underexposed the shot, (with some spot metering in camera) because I wanted the image to be all about the flowers.

I love the curls of the petals and the small spot of "bling" placed by the florist. The bouquet, I'm sure is long gone, but we'll always have this image to remind us.

And since I'm always looking for ways to improve...

I should have included the tip of that top flower to improve the composition of this image.

Take care,
