documentary family sessions

I’m pretty passionate about family memories. My parents divorced when I was in 3rd grade and it was a HUGE turning point in my life for me. I had to grow up fast and a part of my heart was broken forever. As I grew up and healed, I cherised family pictures and I started documenting our family myself. It’s important to document our lives for the memories and feelings attached to them. When I strated my photography business, I started photographing families and graduates, couples. But the family memories, those seemed to speak to me in volumes. I think it’s so important to have these memories to look back on and cherish and love.

I’ve compiled a list of questions you may have that can help answer exactly what it is, how it works, and how much. But if it doesn’t, please scroll down and fill out the form so we can chat some more and figure out what is best for you. I look forward to documenting your family!

Love Does,
Kristin

these sessions are so much fun and totally addictive

These are not your average family photo sessions. Each and every family is unique and their story is as well. Here’s some Q + A’s that may help you understand what this type of family photography is and just how it works. I realize that 24 hours and “day in the life” with your photographer sounds like an INSANE day, but it’s so much fun and you and your kids will have the BEST DAY EVER! Read on!

24 hours, seriously? Okay, so maybe not a full 24 hours. But for a full DITL, (day in the life) I typically arrive when the kids wake up and leave after you put them in bed. This way, I’m there long enough to get the laughter and the tears and a good picture of just what your day looks and feels like. When you l look back on these photos years from now, it will take you back instantly and you’ll cherish those moments forever.

Okay, our house looks like crap 95% of the time, seriously. Can we go to a hotel? You need to trust me. 10 years from now you won’t care about what your house looked like. Nothing in this world is perfect and your kids won’t care either. Heck, if it’s messy they don’t care now. Let the house be the house that you are loving and rasing your family in. That includes the messy and the wonderful and mixed in together. JUST DO IT! I focus on the people nd the love more then anything, so no worries if you house ins’t clean.

My kid doesn’t like strangers. Some don’t. Some do. And they may not at first. And that’s OK. Just tell them I’m a friend, and I’m hanging out with your family for the day. They turst you and they will me as well. I’m pretty nice, lots of fun, and willing to play just about any board game known to man. I’m also not creepy.

We are so dang busy, how do I find a day to get this scheduled? A busy day is a perfect day. Not kidding. You have dentist appointments or libray books that need to go back? Costco run? Take me with you. That’s exactly a day in your life. Let me come along and document it for you. A DITL session records the beautiful mess our of your everyday life.

There is nothing more beautiful then raw, messy REAL LIFE.

How does this work? You pick one day that works for you and your family. Typically a normal, mundane day. I will join your family and all their activities, errands, naps, dropoffs and pickups, etc. You will not need to stage your home or your life, trust the process and let your life be just that, YOUR LIFE. I will work very hard to capture special moments of joy and love and even a few naught moments in between. We all have them. Don’t lie. My goal is to show images of how hard parenting can be, but also how rewarding and love filled it truly is. Some people get nervous about having me around that much. I promise, after the first hour of me begin there snapping away, you will hardly even notice the camera anymore. You will be too busy with your family!

How long until we see our DITL photos? I take thousands of RAW images from our time together and it takes me a while to go through them. Once i do, I will send you a sneak peek and then a few days later the full gallery for you to share with family and friends. You will also be able to download your images from your gallery directly into your computer or device.

How much does this cost? Full days are $1200. $500 is required to book your date with the remainder due the day of your session. Payment plans are available, so mention that in your message if needed. A 1/2 day session is available, please contact me for details.

session includes:

  • photographic coverage of your day

  • online gallery with files

  • 8x10 memory album featuring 100 of my favorite images of your day

  • mini-family session with a framed keepsake print

What is a mini-family session? At some point during our time together, maybe after dinner, before bedtime, maybe after a walk to the park. At some point we will all make a few portraits together where you all are camera aware and all together in one frame. This image is yours as well and will be printed to remember your family day together. Mini means just that. 10-15 minutes instead of hours of torture bribing your kids to say cheese. UGH. I threw up a little in my mouth just typing that.
