the one where I photograph football on my birthday

I share a birthday with Kim Kardashian.  Did you know that?  I didn't.  So, check out the greeting on my birthday cake!  Isn't that the cutest!!!

My kids came home this weekend because it's Rebekah's Shower and Bachelorette Party AND my birthday!  That's a lot of stuff in one weekend.  And even though I had to work on my birthday, I also got to photograph a football game.  Or at least 1/2 of it.  I left at 1/2 time to meet my family for birthday dinner.  It's was great!  Overall birthday grade?  A+

A quick word about these flowers.  Devin hasn't bought me flowers in AGES.  Like 10-15 years.  At least! So imagine my surprise when these showed up at work Friday.  I honestly had to read the card twice.  LOL  They were supposed to be peach and soft shades of pink.  My favs!  But hello!  Who's complaining!  My old man remembered!

Now on to game photos!  To view more game photos, click the "client photos" in the menu and you'll find 'em.  Go Pirates!

the one with the Homecoming Game, 2016

Lubbock Cooper Pirates Homecoming Court

Lubbock Cooper Pirates played Weatherford Friday night for Homecoming.  We won!  And it was a great night seeing old faces and new ones!  I love being a part of that community and building friendships and gaining new ones.  It's great to be a Pirate!

But first, let's talk gear.  Because, as much as I love the emotional side of photography and documenting life, I love the nuts and bolts of gear talk as well.  I know that it's the photographer that makes the shot, but golly those tools sure help!

I'm a member of Canon Professional Services, and they have a loan program where you can test out gear before buying it.  I've always wanted to photograph a game with a REAL sports lens.  You know the ones.  You see them in the end zone when the guys are replaying the touchdown and there's guys with shooter's vests and BIG lenses mounted on pods.  These lenses are HUGE and heavy, but they produce such beautiful images, crisp and sharp and oh so yummy!  I just had to try one.  Well, it arrived the day of the game and after all the pre-game festivities, It being the Canon 300 mm 2.8 IS.  I test drove that sucker.  It was instant love and admiration and fear and panic all rolled into one.  Love for the beautiful images I was seeing on the back of my camera and admiration for just how dang close it was getting me to the action!  But fear, because I was forced to not chase the action but to anticipate it and hello!  Could I do that?  Would my pictures still be OK?  And then panic upon realizing they were OK and OMGEEEE!  How could I ever afford this lens?  FYI, it retails for around 6-7K.

She performed beautifully and I added her to my "Christmas Wish" so when I sit on Santa's knee, I'm prepared.  I've pulled quite a few shots here to share with you and the blogging world.  Just scroll down past all the pretty girls.  I hope you enjoy!

Kristin

the one with those Laura Bush Pirates!

Every year I forget how hard I laugh around these kids!  Oh, Lord!  I was telling another football momma that it's the BEST AB workout ever!  The only one I care to do, by the way.  But I'm serious!  These kids are so much fun!  Don't get me wrong, it's work.  Hard work at that.  But not so much for me as it is the coach's and the kids. Okay, maybe just the coaches who have to corral all the kids.  The kids?  They get a day off of practice.  HELLO!  That's probably why I get all the great faces!!!   I photographed the Laura Bush Middle School Football team for the 3rd year in a row and it just keeps getting better and better.  I love these PIRATES!!!

the one where the Pirates beat Plainview

October is all pink.  You know, pink out for breast cancer and such.  Everyone likes to get behind a pair of boobs, and raise money and what not. I get it.  I do.  I mean, I basically had ass cancer and that's not near as attractive as breasts, and even though more people die from it each year, we don't have a month.  Or if we do, nobody "blues out" the stadium.

I understand.  I'm not bitter.

Honestly, I'm just pointing this out because it's stupid to get jealous over cancer.  HELLO!

Friday night our Pirates beat Plainview.  I had the chance to go with a couple of friends and enjoy the game!  Even though it was cold and I was home way past my bedtime, it was great to watch our Pirates play and just be there with our Pirate Community! I'll miss this next game, darn it.  But when a bride calls, a bride calls.

Of course, more photos on the Pirate Gallery. Simply click the "LCP" over there to the left.

the one where the Pirates play Frenship

Last night, over in the Pirate Nation, was a game of INTENSE football!  Intense!!!  So Cooper played Frenship last night and many of us didn't fall asleep for quite some time.  We couldn't!  We were too jacked up on "what could have been".  UGH!!!

The game was talked about on social media, at school, in the press, facebook, you name it, all week leading up to the big night.  Of course it was! These two schools have played each other for years!  It's always a good game when a Pirate takes on a Tiger.  There was some trash talk and a bit of vandalism involved I hear, but Hello!  For the most part?  Things were kept to a minimum and they played some football.  And a good game of football, I might add.

When I arrived, (and walked the mile to the stadium), stands were packed and excitement was in the air!  Frenship filled their stands and even posted a precious shout out to Luke and Hannah Grace, two Cooper Families that are hurting right now.  They hung huge banners on their side of the field showing their support.  How cool is that?  That just really impressed me with how much this community loves another, despite where we attend school.  I love that!

Game was great, very entertaining and filled with intense moments.  As always, controversy ensued with a couple of bad ball placements and even a turnover or two.  Coaches discussed with refs, mad faces and lots of emotion.  We honestly should have won.  Could have won.  But it just wasn't in the football cards of heaven last night.  When Frenship scored in the last few minutes of the game, the air was sucked out of the stands here at Cooper and you could hear the disappointment.  Feel the disappointment!  It was awful.  It took a while before my stomach quit hurting.  It really did.

I love being a part of the Pirate Nation and even though we've grown by leaps and bounds, it's awesome to come and still find familiar faces there.  The boys play again next Saturday when they host Stephenville @ 2PM.  I plan on being there.  Maybe I'll see you?

Kristin

the one with the season opener against Idalou

Friday Night Lights in Texas baby!  and I had to work.  Yep.  It's been crazy since we moved those girls back to college.  We haven't hired at The Bull Stop yet, as we are waiting for the right human to come along, and in the meantime, I'm pulling shifts.  I haven't worked up there since May and I'm a bit rusty.  But it hasn't been too terribly bad until today.  I was scheduled to work and needed to be in several places.  LUNA as hosting a fundraiser at the Lubbock Country Club and our boys were playing under the lights tonight in the Pirate Nation.  As in FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!  But things worked out with LUNA and I managed to make part of the game.  It ended up ending at 1/2 time as the lightening just wouldn't stay away.  So, here's a few pictures of the action last night.  You can always catch more on the Pirate Gallery.  See you next time!

the one where Cooper BEATS Estacado!!!

After I had the pleasure of watching the Lady Pirates scrimmage Frenship, which I'll be sharing later, I drove over to watch the Cooper Pirates play Estacado. It was senior night and the parents get to escort their Pirate through the SKULL tunnel and I was photographing that for the Booster Club. But of course, I stayed for the game.

And I'm so glad I did!

This was the LAST game of district and the MIGHTY PIRATES came out on TOP after a hard fought defensive game. We had several seniors out with injuries and one injured during the 2nd play of the game, so a WIN was very emotional for everyone! The played hard, they fought hard, they cheered hard, and THEY WON!!!!

Well done PIRATES!

the one with the Homecoming game photos and Texas Girls with t-shirt guns

I'm finally posting the GAME PHOTOS from Cooper's Homecoming!!! But I have to give a HUGE shout out to Kenda Davies who came and photographed for Cooper while I was with Kalyn Marie on the field. HELLO! That was strange! Not her photographing, but me not photographing. If this is a glimpse of what it's going to be like on their wedding days, YUCH. I may need therapy or hypnotizing going in, folks. This girl did NOT like not having her camera.

Don't worry. I wasn't in pain too long. And Kenda, thank you!!! You were worried about them, but they turned out AWESOME! Thank you!!!

Kalyn chose a beautiful red dress earlier in the week and it fit her perfectly. LOVED IT! So, Dad and I opted for some new digs as well and kept ourselves in slimming black ensembles. Here we are lining up with the candidates and walking the track. Ha!

And while the girl's walked, they played a previously recorded message from the girls about their life at Cooper. It was just a blurb, but it was pretty cool. Here's one mom that Kenda captured perfectly listening and walking her daughter. (HEY! Now that I see this photo, we played soccer with her!!! How fun!!!) She mentioned her mom during her recording and it was so sweet.

THE MOMENT when they announced Susan Hart as Homecoming Queen 2011!!! I LOVE her mom's reaction!!! How fun!!!!

And even better is that Susan cried and really let the moment soak in!!! Such a sweet moment!!!! Congratulations, Susan!!! You are beautiful!!!!

A beautiful court, that's for sure! But don't let the pretty faces and dresses fool you. These Texas girls sure know how to ROCK a football game!!!! It all starts with a green tongue. From there, you throw in a little tango, some pickles and a powerful T-shirt gun and you've got yourself an AWESOME night!!!!

Everytime I would look over at Kalyn she had a HUGE smile on her face!!!! I couldn't quit looking at her and yes, I still managed to fire off 100's of football shots, but HELLO! How fun are these girls?!?!?

LOVE LOVE LOVE this shot of Kalyn and her dad. Thank you Kenda!!!!

It was shortly after this photo was taken that I managed to accessorize my outfit with my sleek black camera. LOL It's about time!!!! It was also at this time that Kenda had to leave to go to a kid's b-day party.

Late.

I'm forever grateful. Don't worry, Kenda. I got your back when Kellyn is up there!!!!

Okay, I have to give a shout out to Mr. Kohnle here. He totally ROCKS the Spirit of a Cooper Pirate!

And his partner in Cooper Spirit Crime should always be Sami Smith. HELLO! This girl is always cheerful and a fantastic cheerleader!!! All our girls are great, but each and every time I put my lens on this girl, it makes me happy. :)

ADORABLE!!!! This precious little girl with Queen Susan is Coach Pesterfield's daughter. LOVE LOVE LOVE her curly hair!!!!

Thank you, Eric Barber for snapping this bad boy!

And yes. We had our own coronation with Queen Garrett.

I had to share one of the back of their dresses. I wish I had photographed them all walking away like this. I think Kalyn and Natalie were headed to the snack bar for some Homecoming Princess Food.

I'm pretty sure these two are the BEST of friends.

Once again, Congrats to Susan! But even more than that? Congrats to all our Cooper Parents and Students!!!! Everyone at our school came together to throw a wonderful celebration of community and friends!!!! I LOVED being a part of Homecoming Week!!! Special thanks to those that worked so hard to make the evening special.

Much thanks!!!!
