I thought it would be fun if I devoted a page to “before + afters”. As photographers, we are ALWAYS playing with our images. It’s one of my favorite parts about my job. Getting the look I want out of the camera and then tweaking it to my vision. It’s fun! Sometimes, depending on what we have been drinking, we can totally “over cook” an image in Photoshop. However, many times, Photoshop is our friend.
Case in point.
Here’s beautiful Kelsey, having a moment in laughter as she attempts to climb a mountain in a gopher ridden hill of east Lubbock. Of course, I underexposed the shot by at least 2 complete stops! YIPES! And I call myself a professional.

And here’s the shot after I played in PS for about 5 minutes. Remember, I use keyboard shortcuts for my most used actions and commands. So, things come quick and go quick.
SAVED!
All from a jpg.
So, here’s what I did.
- opened image and just cried when I realized how bad I suck.
- auto contrast
- used Kubota’s Lighten via SCREEN 1/3 stop
- used clone tool to remove all the crap my lens left on the image because I changed lenses in a dirt field.
- used TRA Big Blue on the sky
- tried to use TRA’s Green with Envy on the “grass” and it turned it red.
- backed up in the history window to save my ass.
- used TRA Pro Retouch on the grass
- used TRA Yin Yang to bring out Kelsey’s face more.
- ran action for blog so I could share with you.
That’s it.
If I had shot this RAW it would be cool to edit the same shot and save it in LR. But I didn’t. So, here we are.
